The Reluctant Jogging Society
From Rocks to Running Shoes: Why I Founded The Reluctant Jogging Society

If you asked me five years ago whether I’d ever start a running brand, I probably would have laughed, taken a sip of dark coffee, and walked back into the wilderness.
By trade, I am a mineral exploration geologist. My life revolves around nature, geology, and spending long, punishing days out in the field. I’ve spent countless hours traversing remote terrains, examining rock formations, and pushing my body through raw elements.
I love nature. I love well-being. But let me be entirely honest with you: I do not always love running.

So how did a field geologist who dreads the first ten minutes of a jog end up founding The Reluctant Jogging Society (RJS)?
The answer lies in the dirt, the oxygen, and a simple truth about human resilience that elite athletic brands keep ignoring.

The Field Epiphany: Oxygen, Stress, and Showing Up

When you’re out on a geology exploration mission, your body is your primary tool. Day after day, you’re walking miles over unpaved ground, carrying heavy gear, and making critical decisions in isolated environments.
To survive—and thrive—in that line of work, I developed two non-negotiable daily rituals:
  1. The Morning Primer: Before starting a grueling day of fieldwork, I’d force myself out for a short jog or brisk walk. It wasn't about setting speed records; it was about adapting my legs to the terrain, opening up my lungs, and filling my bloodstream with clean, renewed oxygen.
  2. The Evening Decompression: After 10 to 12 hours of intense physical and mental strain, I needed a way to release the day’s tension. A slow jog through nature was the only thing that reset my nervous system.
Here’s the catch: almost every single time I laced up my shoes, I didn’t feel like going.
My inner voice would plead for the couch. My legs felt heavy. But I went anyway. And every single time I finished, my head was clearer, my stress was gone, and my body felt alive.
That was my lightbulb moment: You don't have to love running. You just have to show up.

Breaking Free From "Toxic Fitness Culture"

When you look at traditional running brands today, they all preach the same high-pressure gospel: faster splits, marathon training, carbon-plated shoes, and relentless perfection.
If you aren't tracking your heart-rate zones or pushing through extreme pain, they make you feel like you aren't a "real" runner.
We think that’s exhausting [3, 5].
The reality? Millions of us jog simply to stay sane, clear our minds, and earn an iced coffee or a breakfast burrito. We take unashamed walking breaks. We get visibly winded. We complain about the hill, but we finish the loop anyway.
Why wasn't there a community that celebrated the reluctant runner? Why wasn't anyone making comfortable, high-quality gear for the people who show up even when motivation is zero [2, 3]?
That is why The Reluctant Jogging Society was born.

Welcome to The Reluctant Jogging Society
RJS isn't an elite track club—it’s a badge of honor for the unenthusiastic, highly consistent everyday runner.
We are built on a simple, grounded philosophy: SHOW UP ANYWAY.
Whether your pace is a 7-minute mile or a 15-minute trail shuffle, if you get out the door and put one foot in front of the other, you are a member of this society.
What will we be doing later on?
  • ☕ Post-Run Rewards: Celebrating every mile with iced lattes, pastries, or a quiet moment in nature.
  • 🚶 Strategic Walking Breaks: Because walking isn't quitting; it's pacing.
  • 🌲 Nature over Numbers: Focusing on fresh air, green spaces, and mental clarity rather than smart-watch metrics.
  • 🤝 Real Community: Connecting with thousands of people who share the exact same internal struggle every morning.
Built Like Real Field Gear: Premium, Heavyweight, Vintage Comfort
Coming from a geology background, I have zero tolerance for cheap, flimsy gear that falls apart after three uses. I wanted our "society uniform" to feel like an instant favorite shirt you’ve owned for ten years [3, 5].
That’s why every RJS t-shirt is crafted using 100% garment-dyed Comfort Colors® cotton:
  • Ultra-Soft & Breathable: Heavyweight 6.1 oz ring-spun cotton that feels sturdy yet incredibly soft against the skin.
  • Pre-Shrunk & Garment-Dyed: Vintage, muted color tones (like Pepper, Bay, and Garment Black) that look better with every wash.
  • Designed for Real Life: Roomy, relaxed unisex fits with subtle, minimalist typography that transitions seamlessly from a morning trail jog to your favorite local coffee shop.
No tight, shiny polyester. No neon logos. Just timeless, comfortable apparel built to endure 70+ washes without losing its charm [5].
